Come Boldly
Hebrews 4: 16: Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne
of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace in our time of need.
“I think when my daughter was a teenager, she thought that I
was a human ATM Machine.” In a recent conversation with an acquaintance of mine,
he was describing his perspective of his adolescents’ daughters’ approach to
him. I was amused at the time at the image of her coming with hand held open.
However, as I meditated on the context of this blog, I saw the image from a
different perspective. She had no fear, no reservation, no hesitation to come “boldly”
into the father’s presence to ask for those things she desired.
In parallels I heard the still small voice saying if only my
people had the same paradigm of me. That I am a loving, gracious and giving heavenly
father who only wants to lavish them with my love. Now I realize that the Lord
is not an ATM or a genie, but in Hebrews 5:16 we see that we are encouraged to
come boldly (with confidence and courage) to the throne of grace to receive
mercy (not getting what we earned or deserved) and grace (getting what we did
not earn or deserve) for help in our time of need (want or desire). Can you
imagine that kind of liberty? In the book of Esther, we see an example of the
King extending the scepter towards Esther so that she could have access to his
presence. Our King (Jesus) open the door to his courts permanently when He said
it Is finished and God tore the veil, that which had separated us from his
presence, from top to bottom in one miraculous act!
Yes, it is finished so I encourage you today to rethink how
you have approached Him, step into His presence, in His presence there is fullness
of joy and the joy of the Lord is our strength so come boldly!
